Specialist Canine Hydrotherapy for St Neots

Seeing a dog struggle with everyday walks is tough, whether it’s caused by arthritis, an injury, or recent surgery. Hydrotherapy offers a gentle way forward. In warm water, buoyancy takes the pressure off aching limbs, giving dogs the freedom to stretch and build muscle without the impact of hard ground.

At House of Hydro, our registered therapists guide every session using our heated pool and underwater treadmill. We take things slowly, building your dog’s confidence alongside their physical strength. For dog owners visiting us from St Neots, we provide structured, vet-guided sessions designed to help your dog move comfortably again at home.

House of Hydro is owned and run by Natasha De Kauwe BA (Hons), Cert HSA, RCH, a qualified Canine Hydrotherapist and registered member of the National Association of Registered Canine Hydrotherapists (NARCH). She is also a certified K-Laser therapist with extensive experience supporting dogs through rehabilitation. Every dog that visits House of Hydro receives personalised care. We take the time to understand their history, their challenges, and their goals, creating a treatment approach that feels safe, supportive, and effective.

We know that starting hydrotherapy can feel like a big step, particularly if your dog is nervous, recovering from an operation, or experiencing pain or reduced mobility. That is why we never expect every dog to progress at exactly the same pace. Building trust is an important part of rehabilitation.

What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is a low-impact, non-weight bearing form of exercise that uses the natural properties of water to support canine rehabilitation.

Our water temperature is carefully maintained between 28–32°C, creating a comfortable therapeutic environment that encourages movement while helping to reduce pressure on joints and muscles. Depending on your dog’s individual condition and rehabilitation goals, hydrotherapy may be beneficial for:

Tailored Canine Hydrotherapy Programmes

Every dog at House of Hydro receives a personalised hydrotherapy programme designed around their specific needs, abilities, and rehabilitation goals. The aim is always to help your dog move more comfortably and confidently, while adapting their programme as they progress. Sessions can focus on:

What to Remember Before Your Session

Veterinary Consent

A signed veterinary consent form is required before your dog can begin hydrotherapy. This allows our hydrotherapists to fully understand your dog’s medical history, condition, behaviour, and any precautions or contraindications that need to be considered.

Please remember that your dog may not enter the pool or underwater treadmill during their first visit. This is completely normal. The initial session is an opportunity to assess your dog, understand their needs, introduce them to the environment, and build trust. We would much rather your dog have a positive first experience than feel rushed or overwhelmed.

Supporting Active Dogs in St Neots

St Neots offers plenty of opportunities for dogs and their owners to enjoy time outdoors. Priory Park provides 32 hectares of green space, including mature woodland, open areas, and walking routes, and the park is specifically used for dog walking.

Riverside Park is another popular St Neots destination, with open green spaces and riverside walks alongside the Great Ouse. Both Riverside Park and Priory Park retained their Green Flag Award status in 2026, recognising them as well-managed and welcoming green spaces.

For owners looking for a longer countryside walk, Paxton Pits Nature Reserve in nearby Little Paxton offers lakes, meadows, woodland, and marked walking trails. Dogs are welcome, although owners are asked to keep them on leads or under close control in relevant areas and keep them out of the water.

Regular, appropriate exercise can play an important role in maintaining your dog’s strength, mobility, fitness, and overall wellbeing. Of course, the right level of exercise depends on your individual dog. A dog recovering from surgery or living with a mobility condition may need a carefully controlled routine rather than long walks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions we receive from dog owners considering hydrotherapy.

Yes. A signed veterinary consent form is required before treatment begins. This helps our hydrotherapists understand your dog’s medical history and make sure hydrotherapy is appropriate and safe for their individual condition.

Not every dog naturally enjoys water, and that is completely normal. Our hydrotherapy sessions are introduced gradually, allowing your dog to become familiar with the environment and build confidence without pressure. Your dog’s comfort is always more important than rushing through a session.

A hydrotherapy pool provides a controlled therapeutic environment with regulated water temperature, specialist equipment, clean water, and professional supervision. This allows exercise to be carefully adapted to your dog’s rehabilitation needs. Natural water cannot provide the same level of control or targeted support.

Buoyancy aids provide additional support and allow our hydrotherapists to help control your dog’s movement during rehabilitation. Even confident swimmers may benefit from additional support when completing therapeutic exercises, particularly if they are recovering from injury or surgery.

The recommended frequency depends on your dog’s condition, rehabilitation goals, response to treatment, and progress. Your hydrotherapist will discuss an appropriate programme with you and adjust it as your dog develops strength, confidence, and mobility.
